This Week @ CLC - March 12, 2010
‘Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tyre?’ Corrie Ten Boom
Africa – Mrs. Foto, the deputy manager of the Treichville bookshop in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, reports that her husband was seriously injured in a car accident last week. Please pray for this couple and their three young children.
Alfred Kaikai, acting Director for CLC Sierra Leone, has had heart problems for some time. This is causing concern at the moment and he is having treatment to remove a build-up of fluid around his heart. He would appreciate our prayers for a good recovery from the current problem, and for peace of mind regarding any treatment or surgery that may be needed in the future.
Praise the Lord for a recent shipment of books from Brazil for CLC in Mozambique. Much hard work went in to ordering, shipping, pricing and selling these books. Sales for February were much higher than normal which was an encouragement for Alexander Bila, the manager in Maputo.
Chile – Staff have now been able to gain access to the bookshop in Concepcion. Although books were thrown to the floor and there was damage to the bathroom, praise the Lord that the effects from the recent earthquake seem to be relatively minor. It is hoped that the shop will be ready to open to the public again next week. In Talca the bookshop is now open part time but please pray as a large Catholic church opposite the shop is so badly damaged that it will need to be demolished. This will obviously cause further disruption in the surrounding area. While we praise God that our team and shops are safe, the effects of this disaster will be felt for a long time to come and the needs around them are great. Just yesterday (11th) there was another huge aftershock. May God use us, and our ministry in Chile, to reach out and care for those who are suffering.
Managers needed – Please pray specifically for the right person, called by God, for the following management positions; Spain - Madrid bookshop, UK – Ipswich bookshop and Australia – Retail and Wholesale Trade Manager.
Netherlands – The annual ‘Week of the Book’, a secular celebration, is taking place in the Netherlands at the moment (10-20 March). BCB, an organisation for the Christian book and music trade, of which CLC Netherlands are members, arrange a ‘Christian Book Week’ at the same time. In both cases a specially written book is promoted and given away with purchases worth over €11.50. Praise the Lord for the ‘good news’ we have to offer. Pray for increased opportunities for the gospel message to go out from our bookshops during this week.
*Elba Carrizo, a Christian consultant from Panama who has given of her time and expertise in helping CLC over the last few years, and her family were held by armed robbers in their home earlier this week. Police intervened but sadly her 19 year old son Daniel, a committed Christian, was killed in gunfire. Please pray for Elba, her husband Rolando and the rest of their family as they try to come to terms with this tragedy.
