This Week @ CLC - February 5, 2010
‘Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tyre?’ Corrie Ten Boom
Bangladesh – Dominic Cadet would appreciate our prayers as Christopher Robert, the Director of *ELS India and Bangladesh, plans to visit the bookshop in Dhaka where he and his wife Shilpi work. Pray that Christopher will not have problems in obtaining a visa for this trip. The time spent together is important for assessing the current situation and planning for the future of the work. Pray that God will guide and bless them as they meet.
* CLC is known as ELS in these countries.
France - Please pray for two CLC members who will be undergoing heart surgery sometime soon. Gustave Lerigab, the shop manager in Fort-de-France, Martinique, has had to have heart surgery and is awaiting a date for a further operation. He is able to work but tires quickly. Lucien Carpentier, shop manager in Nimes, is also awaiting a date for heart surgery.
Panama – Milton (the National Director) and Marisol Cheng are ready to move from CLC David back to their base in Panama City. They planned to be there at the beginning of the year but they have not found a suitable place to live yet. The cost of housing has risen significantly in the years they have been serving in David to establish the bookshop there. Pray that the Lord will lead them to the right property, at the right time.
A new member of staff has just joined CLC David – pray for Luis Alberto Gomez as he settles in to the work.
Portugal – The Chronological Bible Study course, that took place in the Coimbra shop last year, will run again on Monday evenings from February until May 2010. It will be in a revised format and some students from last year will attend, as well as a number of new people. Praise the Lord for the students who gave their lives to Christ as a result of this outreach last year. Manager Carlos Cunha will also be attending a special event (Bible studies on the book of Acts) in Coimbra with a booktable from the 12th -16th of February. On the 20th of this month there will be a General Assembly meeting of CLC Portugal. Please pray for the blessing of the Lord on all these extra activities, and on Carlos and his volunteer helpers in the routine bookshop activities as well.
Swaziland – The Nhlangano bookshop closed last year with the idea of moving to new premises in the town. The launch of the relocated shop is due sometime this month. Please pray that regular customers, as well as many new ones, will soon find the shop and be blessed by the ministry in this place.
UK - From the shop team in Stockport: “Pray for us here in Stockport (and the five other former Wesley Owen shops now in CLC) as we adjust to being part of CLC. We are getting to grips with new systems and in particular a new supply chain. Pray that the news that we are to stay open will soon travel round the local churches and that Christians will realise the importance of supporting us if we are to remain open in the long term. Also give thanks that Ken Hill, the former manager of Wesley Owen in Macclesfield, is giving us his help as a volunteer. Pray for former colleagues in the other Wesley Owen shops which have closed and where they await the outcome of discussions with The Nationwide Christian Trust who are interested in reopening some of the shops.”
