‘Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tyre?’ Corrie Ten Boom

Canada/Cote D’Ivoire – Following on from the news last week of the car accident that Rod, Kathy and Mireille (CLC Canada) were involved in, we have had news this week of two more car accidents. Val Moreno, also of CLC Canada, was travelling with her family when they were hit by another car. Once again the car was damaged beyond repair but no one was seriously injured. Thank you again Lord!
Please pray too for Marie Sekongo (CLC Bouake, Cote d’Ivoire). She suffered a fractured arm and lost the feeling in one foot following a recent traffic accident. Marie is expecting a baby, due to be born next month. Praise the Lord that scan results show that baby seems to be unharmed. Please pray for a full recovery for Marie, and for the safe delivery of her child.

Central Asia 1 - “Praise the Lord for encouraging sales in December – the best since Christmas 2002. Praise the Lord too that He does not leave us when we are in difficult situations. At the beginning of this year the cost of electricity and heating was increased by 100%. Our financial situation in CLC will be affected as a result of this so please pray that God will give us wisdom as we try to maintain and improve sales. Thank you for praying.” The bookshop Manager

HungaryZsolt Karpati sends news of a recent initiative in Budapest. It shows what can come from reading a good book! “During the first three weeks of this year fourteen different church fellowships in Budapest met for prayer and fasting. Some church members suggested it, having read the book Fasting by Jentezen Franklin and then church leaders coordinated the events. The themes were: Personal renewal in our relationship with the Lord (week 1), Renewal in our own fellowships (week 2) and Renewal in Budapest – changing the spiritual atmosphere (week 3). The closing session brought these churches together in prayer for revival in this city. The unity was amazing, and we feel it is the start of a new era for Christianity in our country. It is great to be a part of it. To be continued…”

USA“February will be a busy month as we launch the new website and new CLC World magazine.  In addition, we will be developing a robust e-mail database of bookstore buyers that we can send promotional materials about our new books and we will be working on getting many more of our books in the Kindle and E-Pub format.  Our stores will be promoting items for Valentine’s Day and *Black History Month while hosting marriage workshops and books signings in Moorestown and Chestnut Hill with new author Harold Arnold.  Moorestown will also be hosting a Vacation Bible School workshop.” Dave Almack

Long-time CLCer Bonnie Hanson with the Lord – January 2010
Bonnie Hanson grew up in Iowa and was born with a defective heart. However, she became known for her heart for God.  Bonnie joined CLC in 1955 where she worked in the art dept. designing book covers, brochures, etc. She later became the editor of CLC’s mission magazine, Floodtide. She was an artist, author and editor. Around 1978, after serving the Lord with CLC for many years, she and her coworker Alline Marshall, left to start a retreat ministry in rural Georgia called Fellowship Valley.  Over the years they saw many miracles as the Lord supplied for the ministry and protected them from bears, tornadoes and ice storms. God provided funds for growth. Many church groups and international students were ministered to at retreats. Bonnie and the rest of the staff saw many find the Lord and find deliverance over the years. Their story is told in the book Two Weak Women and Amazing Grace. Truly Bonnie ran a good race and she heard our Father say, "Welcome home, Good and Faithful Servant."

* Black History Month is a national annual observance to remember important people and events in the history of the African Diaspora. It is celebrated annually in the USA and Canada in February and in the UK in October. CLC in the USA emphasise the presence of Africans in the Bible as part of their support for this initiative.
