Japanese Believers Rebuild
Christian survivors of the deadly earthquake and tsunami that devastated their homes and churches on 11 March, leaving over 27,000 dead, are slowly beginning to realise they may never go home again. Not only have they lost everything, but many will probably have to start their lives over in new cities far away from the deadly radiation of the Fukushima Dai-Ichi power plant which has started to leak plutonium. "More than anything else," says one weeping survivor, "the worst is that I've lost my church. But I won't be defeated." Japanese missionaries describe the emergency aid they have been receiving for victims as essential, but say they are saving as much as possible for the rebuilding of churches. Meanwhile, still-standing Japanese churches are doing heroic work, helping to deliver supplies and helping people clean out their homes. Only about 1.5% of Japan's 126 million people are believers, which makes them the second-largest unreached people group in the world. [MISSIONS INSIDER, 30 March & Others]
